We took Simplicity Pattern # 9769 for a classic Civil War corset and made it in a slightly less than classic look.

This is a single layer corset with the casings sewn on the outside in contrasting colour. Basically we sewed all the panels with wrong sides together, trimmed the seam allowance, pressed the seams and stitched the casings overtop. There are also casings sewn in the middle of a few of the panels. Top and bottom edges were bound with bias cut fabric strips as usual. We left out the busk and finished the center front in the same way as all the other seams and set black eyelets in the back, then finished the corset with black lacing.  Just an idea, but one that could use any colour combination for a totally different effect. Sounds simple but it did take some careful planning and some seams did end up getting ripped out and re-done so approach this project with patience and planning.
